Mission:

Technizzel is an online publication designed to inspire young people to pursue careers in engineering and advanced technologies. Focusing on fields such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, and engineering, Technizzel incorporates age-appropriate explanations and images in order to attract even the most non-science oriented readers. The word “Technizzel” represents a combination of two cultures: Technology and Pop Culture (Thanks, Snoop).

Educators are concerned that the U.S. has fallen drastically behind other countries in the studies of science and engineering. A Raytheon Corporation survey of 1,000 11-to-13-year-olds released in January 2006 found that 84% said they would “rather clean their room, eat their vegetables, go to the dentist or take out the garbage than learn math or science.” Isn’t it time students learned about how the classic theories found in our textbooks have evolved into such inventions as the iPod, mobile web, GPS navigations systems and Nintendo Wii? That’s where we come in.

Our team of writers focuses on the most exciting science and engineering stories out there. We will be highlighting everything from the courses taken as an undergraduate engineer to the software integration in the iPhone (Staff Articles have Orange Title Bars). Additionally, we encourage our readers to contribute as well! Registered users have the ability to discuss some of their favorite high school science courses, exciting laboratory experiences and first day on the job. These contributions are designated in the “Labyrinth” section and are published on the front page (Blue Title Bars).

Whether you are a passionate researcher looking for others with similar interests or a gadget lover looking for a review, Technizzel is your spot for everything tech!

“The vibe at Technizzel is young, energetic and creative. We hope to inspire other young people like ourselves in understanding that engineering and technology go hand in hand with cool” - Ben Jabbawy, Founder Technizzel

History:

In July 2005, Ben Jabbawy spent the summer interning at Lux Research Inc., a nanotechnology market research and advisory firm in New York City. His internship mentor, Matthew Nordan, testified before Congress about the importance of developing nanotechnology research within the USA. He referenced the disheartening statistics exemplifying the lack of students pursuing engineering in America. After listening to this testimony, Ben began to think of his experience with science throughout middle school and high school. It occurred to him that none of the exciting science he encountered during his summer internship, or any new technology for that matter, was ever included in high school science class. With that in mind, Technizzel was born.
